High resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy of clean and hydrogen covered Si(001) surfaces: first principles calculations.
نویسنده
چکیده
Surface phonons, conductivities, and loss functions are calculated for reconstructed (2×1), p(2×2) and c(4×2) clean Si(001) surfaces, and (2×1) H and D covered Si(001) surfaces. Surface conductivities perpendicular to the surface are significantly smaller than conductivities parallel to the surface. The surface loss function is compared to high resolution electron energy loss measurements. There is good agreement between calculated loss functions and experiment for H and D covered surfaces. However, agreement between experimental data from different groups and between theory and experiment is poor for clean Si(001) surfaces. Formalisms for calculating electron energy loss spectra are reviewed and the mechanism of electron energy losses to surface vibrations is discussed.

Surface core-level shifts on clean Si(001) and Ge(001) studied with photoelectron spectroscopy and DFT calculations, 2010, Physical Review B. The Si 2p and Ge 3d core levels are investigated on the c͑4 ϫ 2͒ reconstructed surfaces of Si͑001͒ and Ge͑001͒, respectively. Calculated surface core-level shifts are obtained both with and without final state effects included. Significant core-level shifts are...
متن کاملSURFACE ORDERING OF P-RICH InP(001): HYDROGEN STABILIZATION VS ELECTRON CORRELATION
The influence of hydrogen on the reconstruction of InP(001) surfaces is studied by first-principles calculations. One-monolayer phosphorus forming oppositely buckled dimers with one hydrogen adsorbed per dimer is energetically favored for a wide range of surface preparation conditions. The electronic structure and STM image calculated for this adsorbate geometry agree well with the experimental...
متن کاملHydrogen Induced Si Surface Segregation on Ge-Covered Si(001)
Using Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy in conjunction with hydrogen adsorption to probe surface layer composition, we observe a reversible place exchange between Ge and Si on Ge-covered Si(001) when the surface is dosed with atomic H at elevated temperatures. First-principles calculations confirm a thermodynamic driving force for this place exchange. To expla...

The vibrational properties of clean, Hand D-covered GaN{0001} surfaces were investigated by high-resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy. Auger electron spectroscopy and low-energy electron diffraction were utilized to monitor the surface cleanliness and structure, respectively. At the clean surface the Fuchs-Kliewer surface phonon frequency was determined to 700 cm−1 (86.8 meV). For the a...

We present first-principles electron energy-loss near-edge structure calculations that incorporate electron-hole interactions and are in excellent agreement with experimental data obtained with X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS). The superior energy resolution in XAS spectra and the new calculations make a compelling case that core-hole effects domi...
